Try This Quick Fix, Got Stains Off My Duffel Bag In Seconds

Dear Fave,

This is not an OCD rule book, in fact it's far from anything like that.

However, In life we all have a certain preference for how we do things, like do the clothes hanger face back, front or doesn't even matter?

Should the toothpaste be pressed from the middle, top or bottom (ever popular one)?

For beauty fanatics, should the dressing table be kept as minimal as possible or overcrowded with all the beauty supplies binge?

The bottom line here is everyone has a way they like to see things; which explains why they are done differently and moulds a sight to behold.

"I have certain habits I indulge in and I'm not shy to create new ones as the need arises."

I recently returned from a weekend like trip where I chartered a car. The trunk of the car was quite messed up with some grease and by the time I took my duffel bag out at my destination I noticed black stains on the baby pink portion of my duffel bag, luckily for me the bag is leather.

I gently and quietly picked my duffel bag out of the trunk, when I got home contained it straight in the open space in my bathroom and gradually offloaded the contents until it was quite empty.

I took a foam sponge and compressed it inside water mixed with bleach (Jik/Hypo). My aim was not to bleach my beautiful bag but to completely remove the stains which if was the aim alone would have been me killing an ant with a hammer, but I also wanted to disinfect it and the use of an antiseptc solution (dettol, savlon, etc) would have required me to wash the entire bag first by applying soap.

I wiped the bag, starting from the inner portion and slowly found my way out. Focusing on the clean to dirty area basic rule.

"I needed a quick fix and using a bleach was it for me."

I let the bag air close to the window so heat energy from the sunlight could help me work the final magic of completing the dis-infective process and drying the bag.

Finally, when the bag was dried I made it join the other travel luggages.

The main goal here is to contain germs, prevent bacteria spread and boost a clean, safe living environment.

Other Habits

I share this particular habit constantly, its one I learned while growing up but was re-enforced during my medical school, and eventually became a part of me.

Clothes, shoes, bag, that has mixed with the atmosphere outside my house are not immediately mixed together with their other counterparts.

  1. I leave worn shoes at the entrance, until its been cleaned and replace them on the shoe shelf.

  2. Not so strict with bags because I'm careful of where I place them when I'm out, but they have a particular area I keep them and they never see the light of day on my bed.

  3. Dirty clothes have a basket and a trick I learnt is to leave them inside out if I'm to put them closer to clean ones. This way I know they have been worn.

What methods do you use to fix similar stains quickly?

do you have habits you want to share you think others can benefit from, leave your thoughts in the comment box below.

Love,

F.P
