Dear fave,
I remember her words clearly when I with an anxious look on my face like a toddler seeking its favorite milk asked her, to recommend me products I could use when I got back to my home country.
With a calmness in her voice, she smiled at me and, replied softly but with utmost concern “You will know what to use when you get back to your country”.
True to those words with fingers crossed, it was a hurdle to cross when I got to that bridge initially but like every great teacher, she had to let me put my best knowledge into practical use. Not until recently have I started seeing in volumes what she meant.
My first experience when I just got back to my homeland, a new and different environment was not a pleasant one, almost no access to the luxurious availability of options I previously had.
Rather a variety of either steroid filled cosmetic products vastly available on almost any cosmetic shelf I went to or a selected few arcade products, bogus products, subsidized versions of really good products readily available imitating originals, then again we are not discussing shortcomings just yet.
It is so easy to have those selling products especially when it has to do with cosmetics deceive others and this is generally due to lack of experience both from the side of the sellers relayed right down to the buyers, which is mostly based on what we are discussing today. Gloat no more on circumstances surrounding the skin you just have no idea how to sort out anymore. I spent a lot of time in 3 northern states with an equally different status which is going to be the base of this article today.
Plateau state, the real joy of anyone who likes a really cold and low temperature. Kaduna has its seasons
Abuja, heat central, some seasonal basic cold nothing major.
The entire skincare routine that worked for me in a foreign cold country is not the same in a more humid sunny environment or SubSaharan for that matter. Enough chills for lack of better words to describe the Plateau weather.
Cold Climate Skincare Routine
The skincare routine of winter, harmattan or any cold climate involves; Less exfoliation of the skin because of increased susceptibility of the skin to dryness and decreased moisture content.
Mild cleansing to prevent excessive stripping of the skins natural oil. Increased hydration to balance the skin PH levels. Moisturizing, of course, to protect and nourish the skin.
Because of all this, heavy coats of makeup can be gotten away. Still looking and slaying like a queen, no excess humidity to trickle the makeup off, it sets just fine and fewer chances of horrible breakouts.
Trying that in a hot humid environment, on the other hand, does the opposite. Doing more damage than beauty good to the skin. In a jiffy let’s run through the basics that are necessary for you to know about living in a hot humid environment.
Our skin types differ from one to another and as such must be treated accordingly.
It’s always best to study your skin type and obey it but when regardless of your skin type a beautiful makeup looks like a silly mess going half way through the day, here are the most important tips that would work to fix the geographical and global issues in a hot sub Saharan climate like Nigeria that affects all your queening and slaying but first go through my skincare regime HERE.

Hot Climate Skincare Routine
CLEANING
Washing the skin is tricky, it needs to be thoroughly cleansed from dirt, makeup and oil clogs but at the same time not totally stripping the skin off of its natural oils.
The general rule of cleansing the skin at least twice a day still stands, because the skin builds up oil over the day and all through the night too, a good exfoliation of at least once in two weeks or as recommended by your beautician or cosmetologist is key.
MAKEUP
No need for everyday baking and contouring in different layers.
Limit application of cosmetic products to a single makeup layer with multiple effects. Like instead of applying a foundation, concealer, and powder, it’s better to just apply concealer and a foundation powder or in place of foundation and powder try applying just a good foundation powder.
Thankfully there are so many options and price ranges to pick from in this aspect.
Maintain clean brows, instead of having to fix them with concealer to look clean.
It’s easier and less time-consuming, especially for a busy or career person to keep a groomed brow.
A more natural classic look of trimmed full brows, brows that have been dyed and, a good tattoo, do serve as other alternatives coupled with neutral or colored eyelids and lashes (fake or mascara) if your work permits you to have them all.

OTHERS
Every now and then, especially during that special time of the month, hormonal changes cause breakouts which sometimes leave behind dark spots on the skin.
Just to state the fact that bleaching cosmetic products were not invented to be used as everyday products.
That is a great mistake I find many people make creating a dangerous cycle of exposure to harmful side effects, once the area note I said 'the area', has been treated discontinue aggressive use to avoid further complications of the skin.
The truth is it’s tempting but when the pros are weighed compared to the cons as to using a bleaching cosmetic product as a regular skincare plan it's not a wise idea in a hot climate. Because all the skin is doing is protecting itself from the harmful effect of the ultraviolet rays from the sun. So instead of lightening the skin, the skin is working overtime to make sure it produces more melanin pigment to fight off the harmful radiation of the sun which causes the trouble of uneven skin tone and hyper-pigmentation making the latter state worse than the former.
