Dear Fave,
Today it isn’t news that natural and organic products have not only flooded our beauty markets but on how costly and controversial the subject is.
So quickly I want us to have a glance on some basic questions that may have crossed your mind or concerns you’ve thought out loud, I know I’ve had a couple myself, so let me share this information with you and make sure to send in your concerns so we can treat it together also.
Does 100% Organic Mean No Chemicals? What are Preservatives ?Are Preservatives Chemicals too? What Harmful/Non-harmful Chemicals Are Used As Preservatives

Does 100% Organic Mean No Chemicals?
This would depend on the brand of cosmetic products you’re investing your money in as some products do contain pure natural ingredients which will then again be stated as such. This natural products involve the use of freshly derived ingredients which means the shelf life and the expiry date will be shorter or longer than inorganic products depending on the ingredients, while some contain all natural ingredients but to get a cosmetic appearance eventually mixed with water will result in the addition of conservatives which helps preserve the products and give it a longer shelf life meaning now it can have a longer expiry date and be used longer, but this ones should not be certified more than 70% and are usually wrongly labelled.
I taught you in a previous article on how to read cosmetic products like a pro because of instances like knowing the worth of your money and getting the best value for your skin.
What are Preservatives ?
Preservatives are ingredients used to prevent the growth of micro organisms like fungus, bacteria, virus and other nasty substances that do exist in this world of ours in your cosmetic beauty products, which is why most products contain some and others contain a lot of preservatives.
Personally i do not like products with so many conservatives and it is hard to tell if you do not acquire the necessary experience needed to know how to tell those coded chemistry words.
Are Preservatives Chemicals too? The word chemical doesn't necessarily mean it's all bad, every ingredient except water is either derived from animal, plant, mineral, synthetic, bacteria, fungi and the list goes on. The process in which it is derived is the main concern.
The main components used are called surfactant (conservatives) for example cocamide DEA, MEA, PEG, Paraben, even fragrance, colors dyes and so on. If not the components of the product won't last long, be mixed properly and germs might begin to grow after a while, therefore elongating shelf life, quality and plesantness.
What Harmful/Non-harmful Chemicals Are Used As Preservatives
Silanes, Siloxanes, for example dimethicone, polysilicone-10
Some studies show that most preservatives and surfactants alike are toxic when consumed in high doses, but our bone of contention (main concern) is when more than half of the cosmetic product content is made up of preservatives and instead of the advert worthy ingredients the bottle claims to be selling you are getting more of the preservatives and less of what the products claim they would do for you, its why a lot of faves prefer to invest in products that read organic or natural even when you cannot tell if its a fact or not.
Forget scams and learn to know the truth for your self.
Physician’s Advice;
In a nutshell some organic products do contain preservatives in the lowest ratio possible which is limited and must be stated like in the case of leave-on fragrance if more than 0.001% and rinse-off more than 0.01% Organic products further opt for alternative ingredients which are safer than the general mass produced commercial products and this gives them an upper hand.
Send in your comments on thoughts concerning this topic and be sure to share online with your faves too.
LOVE, F.P.
